The Iniquities Trilogy

The Last Dance
Walking Alone
Runaways

In The Short Oxford Dictionary
the word 'Iniquity' has two meanings:
Immoral, unrighteous or harmful action or conduct;
gross injustice, wickedness, sin.
and:
Inequality, inequity, unfairness
All of these are at the core of the relationships
in the extended Donaldson family
whose history is
described in the Trilogy.

The Last Dance was published
on 20th April 2006.
Volume 2 Walking Alone followed swiftly,
published on 1st April 2007.
The concluding volume, Runaways,
was published on 27th June 2008.
All have been published by Troubador Publishing

Each book is narrated, for much of the time,
by a major character.
The books span different, inter-locking, time frames
extending across the entire Twentieth Century.
But they all conclude in the same room,
on the same day in 1999
as the family gathers for the reading of a will.

Carolyn McCrae tells how The trilogy came about:

"Over the Easter weekend of 2003 I had a new laptop to get to grips with. I tapped away in Word, not really having any particular aim in mind, I was just playing with the new software.
Through the afternoon, as I explored tables and bullet points, I found a plot was being outlined; characters and their relationship to each other (both real and perceived) were being mapped out, the beginnings and endings of the three books were established.
All I had to do then was write the books...."

Despite working long hours at the 'day job',
and moving house twice,
Carolyn completed the three books
in less than five years.
